Diep in die Berg Receives a Royal Visit. Bayede! 7 Icon Wine Launch

Diep in die Berg experienced a touch of royalty, when His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini, launched the “Bayede! 7 Icon Wines” on 28 May 2014. However the Zulu monarch, best praised by his loyal followers as 'Nkosi, did not make the trek alone. He was accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Thandi Zulu, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and the royal household.

The launch of the Bayede! 7 Icons Wine Range coincided with an auction of the luxury wines. This, as an effort to raise much needed funds for Diep in die Berg’s Charity Champ Fund – an organisation which supports places such as NdlovuMedical Care Group and Charity Bayede! Supports. A total of R11000 was raised just with the Auction.

Bayede!Means “Hail the King!” in Zulu – a salute once reserved for King Shaka Zulu.

The Bayede!Marketing Pty Ltd identity and brand was born following a meeting between wine farm owners Hansjuerg and Francesca Saager, Bayede! CEO Antoinette Vermooten and The King of the Zulu Nation in 2008. The event reflected their initial idea, a focus on developing a range of luxury royal products, while paying careful attention to sustainable job creation opportunities and empowering people through skills transfer programs.

“This will ignite agriculture, textiles, manufacturing, art, crafts and tourism in South Africa. Bayede!is one of the fastest growing royal luxury brands.”

His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini.

The royal wine range is a first in South Africa, in that, never have seven of the country's top wine makers moulded together to create the 7 Icons Wines. Some 125 attendants got a chance to taste one or two of the immaculately prepared wines. These are:

1.      7 Icon Chardonnay 2012

2.      7 Icon Sauvignon Blanc 2013

3.      7 Icon Chenin Blanc 2012

4.      7 Icon Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

5.      7 Icon Merlot 2011

6.      7 Icon Siraz 2011

7.      7 Icon Pinotage 2010

Although the names may take some time to adjust to... they surely did justice to the pallet.

The launch, held at Diep in Die Berg, Conference and Function Centre , celebrated and showcased South Africa and our wealth in culture. Bayede! is a winner of the The Michelangelo International Awards, Gold and Silver.

Hmmm..the idea of the brand going abroad... yet another accolade to put South Africa on the map.

Bayede! Nkosi!
